Ponguru is a conversation between ancient and contemporary voices.

With Ponguru, Al Fraser and Phil Boniface bring together the many voices of ng taonga pa and the low voice of the doublebass in an exploration of timbre, space, melody, and our shared musical language. Working in collaboration with Steve Garden, Ponguru has been released through Rattle Records to wide acclaim.
This performance at The National War Memorial Carillon features original compositions and improvisations from Ponguru, as well as new music developed from concerts Al and Phil have performed throughout Aotearoa and abroad. The music from Ponguru has been toured with Chamber Music New Zealand and performed in Melbourne at the Tilde New Music Festival in 2019.
Limited seating is available so please bring a cushion to ensure your comfort.
