NZSM Jazz Project – Big Band Competition
Hear secondary school big bands from around New Zealand.
The New Zealand School of Music Jazz Project invites budding young jazz players from around the country to take part in workshops, competitions and masterclasses during the Wellington Jazz Festival, all open to the public.
Guest adjudicators for the Big Band Competition this year include Musical Director of one of the United States’ finest college jazz bands, Matt Harris; drummer, percussionist Lauren Ellis; and jazz pianist, composer and NZSM Artist Teacher Daniel Hayles.
The Big Band Competition runs throughout the day and each band has a 20-minute performance followed by a workshop led by a guest adjudicator.
